World-leading textile technology effective against the virus that causes COVID-19

In studies conducted by the Doherty Institute, a joint initiative between the University of Melbourne and the Royal Melbourne Hospital, HeiQ Viroblock - the textile technology used on the protective inner layer of our Sannino designer face masks - has been proven among the first textile technologies in the world to be effective against the SARS-COV2 virus that causes COVID-19. How does HeiQ Viroblock on face masks work against COVID-19?

Untreated fabric textiles are vulnerable to bacteria and viruses.
These can become a vehicle for pathogens to attach themselves to and can be re-transmitted through contact.

HeiQ Viroblock treated textiles, used on the inner layer of our face masks, has been proven to be one of the first textile technologies effective against the virus that causes COVID-19.
Recent tests show that textiles treated with HeiQ Viroblock NPJ03 had no infectious  viruses left after 30 minutes.

What is HeiQ Viroblock?

HeiQ Viroblock NPJ03 is an innovative Swiss textile technology that gets added to fabric at the final stage of manufacturing. Surfaces, including textiles, can be a breeding ground for viruses and bacteria and can increase the risk of contamination and transmission.

The Swiss engineered HeiQ Viroblock NPJ03 uses silver technology to help inhibit the growth and persistence of bacteria and enveloped viruses, such as coronavirus, on textile surfaces.

Silver technology attracts the oppositely charged viruses and binds permanently to their sulfur groups. The fatty spherical vesicle technology (Liposomes) assists in depleting the  viral membrane of its cholesterol content in minutes.

As far as studies have shown, the COVID-19 causing coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 survives on textile surfaces for up to two days.

It is important to remember that the World Health Organization (WHO)  recommends face masks as only a secondary intervention with regular hand washing and social distancing being the most important.

But even as a protective measure, face masks themselves carry some risk due to the ability of the virus to survive on textiles. Even with the best face mask using the most advanced technology, you must still take extra precaution when removing a face mask after returning home.

Doing whatever we can to mitigate this risk is crucial in helping curb the spread of the virus and HeiQ silver technology works by making textiles used in protective wear inhospitable to viruses and bacteria.
